Handcrafted Namji figure featuring structured green beadwork, fibre wrapping, and cowrie shell detailing.

This Namji figure from northern Cameroon presents a more controlled and balanced interpretation of traditional beadwork adornment. Built on a carved wooden core, the form is wrapped in natural fibre and layered with finely arranged green beadwork, creating a uniform and disciplined surface. Unlike more densely varied examples, the restrained colour palette introduces clarity, allowing the structure and symmetry of the figure to take precedence. The composition is anchored by a band of cowrie shells at the waist, introducing texture and symbolic reference to femininity, value, and protection. Subtle metal elements at the ears and chest add contrast, breaking the softness of fibre and bead with a sharper material presence. Facial features remain minimal and stylised, maintaining the Namji tradition of reducing expression in favour of symbolic form and material emphasis.
